Master Greg Silva,
I wish you would pass this letter along to all U.P. Members. I just finished reading your book "The Silva Solution." This is a must read for school owners, instructors, black belts, SWAT Team Members, or anyone who aspires to be a teacher.
What I found intriguing were the depths you went to in researching how to tailor the martial arts to younger students. I just celebrated my 38th year in the martial arts and can attest to the fact that the karate curriculum we inherited from the oriental countries was definitely suited to adults.
I had the pleasure of visiting your Coral Springs, Florida School in the early nineties when you had 300 students, and again when you had 600 students and finally when you had 1300 students. Because of your openness and willingness to share, I took many notes and made a lot of changes in my children's programs. That being said, after reading your book I've gained much more insight into the psychology and meaning behind your innovations. This book is a Must Read !!

Hello
There are certain things that some very successful school owners do that continuously add to their success. Everyone knows that involvement with the school system is paramount to feeding your school with new kids. Steve Butts from Florida is the U.P. Master for success in school systems. Below find a couple of e-mails between Damon Tong and Steve Butts. This is great information to help you build that valuable rapport as well as new ideas to help the school system in your town.
Greg Silva
Hey Mr. Silva -
I got a great response on this from Mr. Butts – might be something you want to pass on to the clients since he is a Cornerman coach.

Hey Mr. Butts –
I enjoyed your school system presentation – made a lot of sense and gave me some good ideas on how to be more successful with our schools and that just happens to be one of our goals for this year.
If you don’t mind, I would like to ask your advice; we just did 13 school talks last week and this is the first thing all year we have done with the schools. What would be your next suggestion for follow-ups now? Thank you notes? Presents? Cash?
Thanks for your time, I appreciate any help you can give us.
Damon Tong
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey Mr. Tong,
I would follow up the schools and teachers with thank you notes and any pictures you may have taken at the different schools….this gives them an opportunity to advertise for you! They will put them up in their classes and even in their hallways! Plus in your thank you notes I would make sure they know all the other services you can do for them, such as P.E . classes, (this time of year is great…the teachers want a break) volunteer readers and any fund raisers they need assistance with. Let them know you appreciate the opportunity to help their kids be more effective for them! Oh….did you also volunteer to do a special class on focus skills before their next testing cycle? I like our thank you notes to be hand written….the personal touch ! I would let them know in their thank you note that you will be following up with a phone call or an e-mail in a week to see what they would like you to assist them with next…assume the sale!
If you have any further questions, just ask
I hope this helps
Steve
Oh…. and by the way ……Chocolate or coffee always works for me…personally |

Easter Revenue Generating Events
Community Easter Egg Event
Many schools do an Easter Egg hunt at their school or within their communities. Itīs a great was way of giving back a fun event for your students and as a way of enrolling more students. The plan is simple. You purchase plastic eggs and fill some with candy, others with coins, some with free guest passes, etc. When students arrive their friends fill out a form to participate. This would include their name, number, address, e-mails and their friendīs name.
Itīs a great idea to do two egg hunts, one for the 4 - 5 age group and one for 6 - 10. Itīs important to separate by ages so the little guys have a chance to find some eggs and everyone has lots of fun. When my school was small we held the event right in the school. Once we had 500 or more kids we would hold it in a churchyard or town park. This is just a fun event with very little emphasis on selling programs although we would have brochures and plenty of presentation packages.
The days following the event is when we call the guests and invite them to a free mass intro class the following Saturday or if they showed special interest we would enroll them for a two lesson complimentary trial program. Now you just need to pass your leads to " TALKING BUNNY" and they will make the calls for you.
Itīs a NO LOSE event in that the worst thing that could happen is all your students have a great time. The best that could happen is you enroll some new students.
For plastic eggs go to www.orientaltrandingcompany.com They currently have a 15% off sale and free shipping.
Family Easter Egg Hunt!
The Easter Egg hunt is one of the most successful events we do every year. Here are a few successful fun factors to add in -
Make 2-3 eggs per student. This will allow each student, family member and friend that attends to find at least 5-10 eggs each (remember some students will not be able to attend).
Get to the park early and throw out all the eggs so when students arrive they are excited so see thousands of eggs scattered all over the park. Divide the students up by ages and have each group go out one at a time to get 2-3 eggs. The older kids will end up trampling over the younger kids if you don't divide it. Make it a race to go get the eggs and come back to parents until all the eggs are all gone. Remember to hide some eggs up in trees and in hard places for the older students. Tape the eggs tight so they donīt break and it is not too easy to just open them to find the special prizes.
We always put special prizes in the plastic eggs. Add in free private lessons, shirts, cardio kickboxing classes, weapons certificates and more. Get a few local business friends, or lead box locations, to donate a few gift certificates.
We always make a few "Golden Eggs" with cash in them $10 to $20. The kids go wild trying to find the "Golden"eggs.
Egg Toss is always a blast and then its time for the Parent/Student Challenge. Don't tell the parents you are doing this. After the egg toss or egg hunt, all the students and friends are on one side and all the parents on the other, its perfect to do a fun Challenge. Have the students bow to the parents showing respect and then start calling off easy techniques. Award the parents points for better stances and more intensity. They will really get into it! The kids will want to win and the parents will have fun doing the techniques. Remind the parents about the Martial Arts Lifestyle!
Sit the school down and tell them how much you appreciate them training with you and what you are looking forward too during the spring and into the summer. Then talk to them about the martial arts-
"Martial Arts is the funnest way to get fit. You get to learn self defense while getting in shape. On top of that you get to spend time with your family and surround yourself around positive people that care about your success." Give all of them a 3 month "Spring" special to get in shape for summer. Plant the Martial Arts Lifestyle seed in them!!

MARTIAL ARTS WEBSITES
Mr. Silva,
About the web site, I just got mine up not even two weeks ago and someone filled out my opt in box. I called her right away. Anyway she signed up. These leads are too easy, they are already interested and pre framed because of what they read on the site. Thanks for connecting me with Renee she is the nicest person and very good at making me money. My web site is already paid for the entire year now, after one sign up. This person says she has friends that want to join and the whole nine yards. As your youngest client, who just turned 23 in November, the web site was a great present. I encourage all UP clients to just get one if they havenīt already. Renee also takes care of your Google and Yahoo search rank. My site looks great check it out: www.NewtownTKD.com
Thanks,
John Fulton

I have had a website with Renee for several months now. I have had tons of leads call in on a weekly basis from this site. Over the last couple of months I have people calling in every week for Birthday parties. In fact I received another Birthday party request from the website today. I do no advertising for the birthday parties other than the website, and I have been hosting Birthday parties almost every Saturday. Renee does an outstanding job. The proof is in the results. These website work!

Hello Corner Man team,
Greetings from the little town of Longview, WA .
We’ve been with Corner Man now since the first week of February. Our 1st victory was that we exceeded our February goal of 15K by $600. We set our March gross goal again at 15K in the hope of “backing it up.” Our 2nd victory is that we reached 23K on Friday with 2 days of business and collections to be added to that. We blew our goal AWAY! Our stats for this month are solid with all the important percentages within specs. This month: 16 new students, 17 upgrades, and 80K in contract amount.
Our 3rd victory came at our March graduation when I presented 30 trophies to the students who advanced to BBT and MT. Thanks to this idea from Mr. Silva, we’ve created a culture in our school where students graduate (not upgrade) to the next higher program. The trophy and the recognition at graduation is HUGE! Lately I’ve changed my vocabulary from “upgrade” to “advancement.” This may seem like a little thing but it is actually one of the biggest and most positive changes in my school.
I want to recognize my team (staff) for the 4th victory. They’ve done an outstanding job serving our members and in the process creating literally hundreds of “Raving Fans.” Last Friday we held a FREE member appreciation BBQ with over 200 attendees. While the parents ate and visited, the kids and teens had a ball playing Guitar Hero World Tour on the 80” movie screen with a professional sound system and disco lights. We had a hard time getting people to leave by 10:00 PM. What a great time.
I want to make it clear to everyone that we are not a new school. We are an “old school” (60631) that needed a kick in the butt to get back in the game. Well, we are back. I want to thank Mr. Silva, Mr. Storm, and Mr. Bertrand for motivating not only me but my entire staff. There are several other victories I could share but I will save those for another day.
With appreciation,
Steve Larson
