Learning to be humble is a critical and necessary aspect of martial arts training. Sometimes as a martial arts school owner our numbers can be our greatest teacher. Our numbers show no emotion, they simply mirror the reality of things and that can be quite humbling!
If your school is not growing I am going to suggest that maybe your classes really aren’t quite as good as you think they are. The floor is everything. If the experience that your students have on the mat is truly amazing then they will choose to spend their time with you rather than participate in other activities. That is a humbling truth. One of the root causes of a bad experience on the floor is a poorly designed curriculum. Instead of talking about what makes up a poorly designed curriculum, let’s instead talk about what a well designed curriculum looks like. 1. It is designed to get new students- It should excite the prospective student and motivate them to want to step onto the mat 2. It is designed to create a consistently good product- that means that the quality of the students you produce should be consistently good 3. It is designed to create a strong bench. No more one man show excuses. Turning out good quality students creates a strong bench of good quality professional instructors Does your curriculum do all of the things? Don’t guess. Your numbers tell all. If you’re not growing I am going to encourage you to set up a time to talk with me about making some changes to how your curriculum in structured. Schools like those of Craig Haley and Derek Frader grow because the experience they provide blows people away; it far exceed their expectations. The format of the new Elements Curriculum could help you do the same because it will give your students a consistently outstanding classroom experience and it is also structured so that you can teach a class that has an impact comparable to those of the gentlemen referenced above. Elements is NOT changing styles; it simply gives you an easy and effective way to build a system of providing an amazing experience teaching traditional martial arts. So here is where the humility comes in…… If you’re not growing, be humble enough to recognize that you need to make some changes. Message me and let’s set up a time to talk. And last, try the Elements Curriculum format this summer. See how your students respond. If they like it, love it and want more of it then you can be confident that adopting the new format is in the best interest of your students and overall growth of your business. Each of our 3 Progress & Goal cards are rack card size with a perforated tear off at the bottom. These are totally affordable to all schools at only $24 per 50!
What are Progress & Goal Cards? The Progress and Goal system is the cutting edge replacement for 2 – 4 – 6 week calls. You accomplish many things. First the initial PG talk helps parents on what to look for in their new martial arts student. It prevents them from comparing their child with other children and teaches them to become “good finders” which leads the faster increases in confidence and self esteem. The tear off SHARE PASS is a way for the new student to shares his excitement with others. These card are meant to be handed to the student after the mini chart after two weeks. On week four we are getting to know the student and parents a little more. We discover where they work, what goals they have and tell them about possible hurdles the student may face in their training. We then agree to TEAM UP so the students NEVER GIVES up. This reassures the new student of our commitment and prepares him for their experience in the school and setting goals. The simple tear off coupon is good for a Pro Shop purchase. Our last PG chat is around week six. It’s usually after their first stripe test and it’s where you share the Black Belt vision and long term goals. The coupon is so the student can invite a friend in for a VIP membership and the chat leads to a Progress Check and upgrade evaluation. This is a powerful system you need to master. These cards are a must for your retention system and upgrades made easy program. They are pre-printed and are perforated to tear the coupon off easily. http://getstudents.com/collections/progress-goal-system For everyone who signed up for our free Summer Survival package, you may have had trouble accessing the Elements curriculum pages at the top of the page.
