We recently had a question on how to get parents and students excited about participating in the Black Belt Excellence System by turning in their completed activities. Mr. Silva says:
"The more of a BIG DEAL about getting the wristband the better. Kids love to collect these. Make it BIG when you award them. Congratulate the kids and have everyone clap for them.
The reason it’s worth the effort is schools all tell parents they teach Life Skills and Martial Arts. They say our school is more than just punching and kicking. The newsletters are your system for doing this. Parents should be wanting to read these and listen to your Mat Chats. This is exactly what 85% of parents want. They want the skills such as confidence, pride, self- esteem and courage over all the physical things. It’s all about teaming up and not giving up on the children.
I don’t want to kids to think of it as homework but rather a responsibility. Martial Arts is responsibility and discipline - we owe it to these kids to provide it."
